As a child, I always struggled in school despite my studying and efforts to improve. Growing up in Maine, I was fortunate to experience education in schools with smaller class sizes and non-traditional learning experiences. This is where I thrived and found my way of progressing academically. I graduated from the University of Maine's College of Education and Human Development in 2016 and moved to Arizona in 2017 to pursue my teaching career. I've taught in public charter and private schools for the past eight years as a second, third, fifth, and sixth grade teacher. In 2024 I decided to leave the classroom work environment and transition into working in student support services. In summer of 2024, I started Core Academics with a mission to offer individualized student support to students who need it, as I very much did while growing up in school.
My name is Aiden, and I am a current high school math teacher in Gilbert, Arizona. I have been teaching for four years at the same high school. Before working in the classroom, I tutored students in math starting at the middle school level, all the way to college level math. My expertise is in the areas of Geometry, Algebra I and Algebra II. Time spent learning does not end for me. As I continue to teach students, lessons can be derived from every experience; how is the student receiving information? How are they responding? Most importantly, how can I assess them more optimally? One of my very favorite things to do is take a student's interests or hobbies, and tailor the mathematics directly to them. Finding new ways to explain, analogize, and explore on an idea is time well spent.
With nearly 18 years of experience teaching Spanish, I have worked across various school districts and private schools, educating students from kindergarten to 12th grade. As a certified Spanish teacher and tutor, I am an expert in grammar and conversational Spanish. I specialize in dual-language immersion and language acquisition. My extensive experience allows me to create personalized and engaging lessons that help students master both the structure and fluency of the language. Whether in a classroom or tutoring setting, I am committed to fostering confidence and success in my students’ Spanish language journey.
My name is Grace, and math has always been a source of comfort in an unpredictable world. With a passion for helping others discover the joy in mathematics, I am dedicated to transforming math anxiety into confidence. I hold a a B.A. in East Asian Languages and Cultures, an M.A. in Education, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California. With over 10 years of tutoring experience and 6 years as a public-school teacher, I have taught students from elementary through high school, always striving to facilitate those enlightening "Aha!" moments through engaging and student-led learning experiences. When I'm not in the classroom, you can find me indulging in my love for puzzles, painting, and board games or exploring new languages. My goal is to make math not just understandable, but enjoyable for everyone.
My name is Jackson, and I'm excited to be working with students who face the same challenges as I did while in school. I understand the frustrations many students with learning difficulties experience on a daily basis. In elementary school, focusing in class was difficult, and forgetting things was a daily occurrence for me. Through great teachers and tutors, I was able to figure out what worked for me as a learner, and my performance improved in school. I am an Elementary Education major at Grand Canyon University, and completing my student teaching. I have experience in tutoring students in grades K - 9. I love to share my personal experiences in learning techniques with my students and helping them discover what works for them.
My name is Joshua, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share my math knowledge with other students. I am currently a student at Arizona State University, studying electrical engineering. I love working with high school students in math. When students are struggling with higher level math concepts, I love being part of their progress, as we work through difficult concepts together. I am very familiar with Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and Calculus. As an engineering major, I am also familiar with many topics in the sciences and enjoy helping students in those areas as well.
"I cannot recommend Core Academics highly enough! The tutors are incredibly knowledgeable in their subjects and genuinely care about their students' success. My children (5th and 7th) have been working with Corey for about five months now, and the improvement in their writing and math has been incredible.
The sessions are engaging, and tailored to my child's specific needs. They take the time to understand each student's learning style and challenges, making the tutoring sessions highly effective.
Communication is excellent and overall Core Academics has exceeded our expectations in every way. If you're looking for a tutoring service that will truly make a difference in your child's education, look no further!"
-Brooke W (5th and 7th Grade Parent)
"Corey has been such a great tutor for our son that struggles with writing and reading comprehension. He makes each session fun and approachable. Our son Adam has learned some great strategies to 'get started' and with organizing his writing work. We continually see progress in his reading comprehension. We LOVE that he comes to our house - so easy!"
-Jamie K (6th Grade Parent)
